Music Workshops

World Music

Our World Music Workshops bring extraordinary musical experiences into your school, giving children the chance to explore instruments and traditions from across the globe. Led by our specialist WEMA teachers, every session is hands-on, engaging, and carefully designed to inspire, whatever the age group.

This guide outlines what each workshop involves, who it is suitable for, how sessions are structured, and what your school needs to have in place to make the most of the experience.

  • Caribbean Steel Pans
Mini Pans for KS1; Full size pans for KS2-5.
  • Japanese Taiko Drumming Workshop KS2-5
Create a composition using Taiko drums and a variety of rhythms.
  • Indonesian Gamelan KS2-3

* Fee: Based on booking World Music as a separate item, not part of a Music Package

Morning, Afternoon & Full Day Options

  • Morning session — up to 3 hours (9am – 12noon)
  • Full day — approximately 5 hours (9am – 3pm including lunch break)

Large Steel Pans and Taiko require a full day booking due to transport and setup requirements.

Recommended Session Length by Age

As per the workshop overview table, sessions should follow the suggested lengths per group

  • Reception (YR) — 30 minutes per group
  • Year 1— 30 minutes per group
  • Year 2 — 40 minutes per group
  • KS2 and above — 45–60 minutes per group (60 minutes strongly preferred)

An Important Note on Group Sizes

Please be aware that sessions cannot be shortened or groups combined to accommodate more pupils in less time. For example, a 3-hour workshop is not suitable for 60 students in 45-minute slots — this does not allow sufficient time for meaningful learning or experience.

Our workshop teachers will adapt session length slightly to suit the age group and time allotted by the school,  for example, Reception and KS1 sessions will naturally be shorter, morning sessions may need to finish a little earlier to allow for school lunch time set-up.

Practical Requirements

To ensure workshops run smoothly and safely, please ensure the following is in place before your booking:

  • A large hall or equivalent space – classrooms are not suitable for any workshop
  • For Caribbean Large Steel Pans and Japanese Taiko, please ensure there is easy vehicle access for unloading and that at least one or two members of school staff are available to assist with setup
  • Staff should join in with the workshops as it makes a real difference to the children’s experience!
